Jay Prakash Majumdar of the All India Trinamool Congress on Monday levelled serious allegations against Asaduddin Owaisi, claiming that the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader is financially backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Speaking to reporters, Majumdar alleged that Owaisi lacks political influence beyond Hyderabad and described him as a “collection master,” claiming he raises funds under the guise of representing minority interests. He further alleged that similar arrangements existed during previous elections.

The remarks come after Owaisi announced that AIMIM will contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections in alliance with Aam Janata Unnayan Party, led by Humayun Kabir.

Confirming the alliance, Owaisi said he would address a joint press conference in Kolkata with Kabir on March 25. Kabir had earlier stated that his party and its allies plan to contest 182 seats in the elections, with AIMIM likely to field candidates in around eight constituencies.
