MEA Secretary Sujit Ghosh in talks with China

Joint Secretary (East Asia) Sujit Ghosh of India’s Ministry of External Affairs held discussions with Liu Jinsong, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on the momentum of bilateral relations.

The Chinese Embassy in India described the consultations as “timely and productive.” Spokesperson Yu Jing said in a post on X that both sides welcomed the positive momentum in ties and reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the consensus reached during the Tianjin meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yu noted that the talks aimed to advance bilateral exchanges, restore institutional dialogue, manage differences, strengthen coordination in multilateral and regional affairs, uphold multilateralism, and safeguard the shared interests of the Global South.

Ghosh visited Beijing from December 11–12, 2025, meeting Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and holding discussions with officials from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce. According to the MEA, the talks were constructive and forward-looking, highlighting the importance of strategic guidance from the leaders of both countries and assessing progress in stabilising and rebuilding bilateral ties.

The two sides reviewed upcoming exchanges and activities for the next year, with the Indian delegation stressing the need for early resolution of outstanding export control issues. Regional and global developments of mutual interest were also discussed.
