Pakistan security forces on Monday said they foiled an infiltration attempt by militants along the border with Afghanistan in South Waziristan, while three civilians were injured in alleged cross-border firing.
According to a security official, Pakistani troops repelled the infiltration attempt in the Angoor Adda Zulul Khel area near the Pak-Afghan border. Authorities attributed the attempt to militants linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, whom the state refers to as “Fitna al-Khawarij”.
Following the incident, Pakistani forces reportedly destroyed multiple Afghan border checkpoints, officials said.
Security authorities alleged that Taliban forces then opened fire on civilian areas after the infiltration bid failed. Three civilians, including two women, were injured and taken to Wana Hospital for treatment.
Officials claimed the shelling of civilian areas came after militants were unable to breach the border.
