On March 31, it was the last day of his job for Delhi Police constable Feroz Alam.

After doing his duty and being relieved of his responsibilities that came with the job ten years ago, Feroze was walked out to embark on a new journey that will take him to train to become an Additional Commissioner of Police.

Feroze Alam’s journey of joining the as a constable and clearing the UPSC Civil services examinations that will make him occupy the hot seat of ACP, is that of grit, determination and dreaming big.

On May 26 he joined his course to train as an IPS officer in his allotted cadre of Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service Cadre.

Feroze’s letter that he wrote on his last day of the job as a constable has been shared on his Facebook.

In the post, Feroz Alam has thanked the senior officers of Delhi Police for his journey since joining Delhi Police as a constable on 10 June 2010. Many policemen have shared the picture of Feroz Alam on social media and congratulated him as a real hero.

Feroz spoke to Awaz-the Voice. He said, “I got real inspiration from my senior officers. After seeing them, I decided that I should prepare for UPSC civil services. From 2014, I started preparing for it. This was my last attempt."

Feroze Alam hails from Azampur-Mahganwa village in the Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. His father  Mohammed Shahadat works as a scrap dealer and his mother Munni Bano took care of the home and children. The couple has five sons and three daughters. Feroze had joined Police after clearing his 12th examination.

The job of a police constable is demanding and studying for the Civil Services is equally strenuous and time-consuming. How did he cope with both?

Feroze Alam says, "I had to balance four things - job, studies, friends and family. I did my duty honestly. After performing my duties, I gave most of my time to my studies. During this time, I openly sought the cooperation of my friends and family and didn’t keep my mission a secret from them. So friends and family also supported me. " Feroze says the delicate balance he managed to strike among these four aspects of his life has given him this success.

Feroz wholeheartedly thanks his room partner Vishal Saraswat for this journey of his success. He says, "Vishal helped me in making notes to discourse, and his opinions on complex economic matters made it work."

Feroze is happy that Vishal has made it as the topper of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Examination in 2019.

Feroze says, Manish, Inspector posted in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar is his idol. “His style of work, his positive attitude, and practical way of decision-making make him a capable officer,” he told Awaz-the voice over the phone.

He says one should have positive thinking and passion and keep trying to meet the success. There are failure and frustrations; one has to find a way out. “I want to tell the youth that they must set their goals and work towards meeting them with dedication. I would like to say one more thing, never be afraid to seek support and help; ask openly for it.”

Has the success changed his relationship with his village? Feroze admit success changes a person’s outlook. However, his success story has generated enthusiasm among the children of the village. Feroze and his Uncle, father’s elder brother, have taken up the responsibility of building a library with a seating capacity of 250 people in their village.

Feroze had announced the construction of the library after clearing his UPSC examination so that the children of the village get inspiration. His success made the children of his village dream big.

Firoz says, "To achieve success in life, it was necessary to create a proper environment in the village. In this sense, the library will play an important role. Now the children will not waste time in loitering around,” he says.
