A 76-year-old man died and at least nine others were injured after a swarm of bees attacked villagers in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon at Jaguleipada village under the Rajkanika police station limits, a senior officer said.

The deceased was identified as Bailochan Biswal, who succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital, he said. The nine injured persons were provided medical care and later discharged.

During an inspection, officials found a beehive measuring around two feet in length on a tree located within the village school premises, the officer added.
