Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sarsanchalak Mohan Bhagwat is meeting intellectuals of the Muslim community in Mumbai today amidst a raging controversy over the Bollywood Lyricist Javed Akhtar likening the RSS with the Taliban.

On Sunday protests were held by the members of RSS, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad against Javed Akhtar outside his home in Mumbai. The Hindu organizations have asked him to offer an apology or else his films will not be allowed to be released.

Bhawat will meet the Muslims in a starred hotel. The list of the invitees have not been released.

Earlier in July, Bhagwat had met Muslim intellectuals at an event organized by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. During this time there was a popular statement about mob lynching, cow slaughter, Hindutva and Hindu-Muslim.

Addressing the event, the RSS chief had said, "The concept of Hindu-Muslim unity has been misrepresented, as there is no difference between them. It has been proved that we are descendants of the same ancestor for the last 40,000 years. The DNA of the people of India is the same."

Bhagwat had said that there can never be dominance of Hindu or Muslim. “Only Indianness can prevail.” In this program, Dr. Bhagwat also released the book of Dr. Iftikhar, who has been with the RSS for the last three decades.
