Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said that affordable education and healthcare are basic needs of every individual and stressed that both must be decentralised to reach all sections of society.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Pandit Deendayal Cancer Hospital in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, Bhagwat said cancer has a devastating impact not only on patients but also on their families, and called for greater participation of society in serving those affected.

“We do not require money, but time to serve the needy,” he said, underlining the importance of voluntary service and compassion.

Bhagwat said diseases like cancer can be caused by several factors, including stress, pollution and adulterated food, noting that their causes are often not specific.

“God has given us a body, and we should use it to serve mankind. Cancer patients and their families need emotional strength and support. We must ensure that facilities like this cancer hospital function effectively,” he said.
