Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged students affected by the cancellation of the NEET examination to launch mass protests, alleging that the government responds only when people take to the streets. He also claimed that repeated examination paper leaks have occurred under political protection.

The National Testing Agency on Tuesday cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 examination held on May 3 following allegations of a question paper leak. The Centre has meanwhile directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct a detailed probe into the reported irregularities.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Kejriwal alleged that the NEET paper had been leaked four times over the past nine years and claimed that no one responsible had faced punishment, suggesting the involvement of individuals enjoying political backing.

Expressing solidarity with affected candidates, the former Delhi chief minister said he understood the sacrifices students and their families make for competitive examinations. He pointed out that coaching expenses are often overwhelming, with many families even forced to mortgage jewellery or other valuables to fund their children’s preparation.

Describing paper leaks as one of the gravest betrayals of students’ trust, Kejriwal said a government unable to prevent such incidents raises serious questions about its ability to govern effectively. He further alleged that such leaks do not happen in isolation and indicated possible involvement of people in positions of influence.

Accusing the authorities of playing with the future of lakhs of aspirants, he urged students to come together and protest, asserting that public agitation is the only language the government understands. He also assured the students of his support in their fight.
