The Academy Awards are preparing for a significant shift, with plans to relocate from Hollywood to a new venue in downtown Los Angeles and transition to streaming on YouTube starting in 2029, as reported by People.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has partnered with AEG to host the ceremony at the Peacock Theater, located within the L.A. Live complex. The arrangement will run from 2029 through 2039. The venue sits adjacent to the Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

This move signals the end of a long association with the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, which has hosted the Oscars since 2001. The ceremony will continue at the Dolby Theatre and be broadcast on ABC until the 100th edition in 2028.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Lynette Howell Taylor welcomed the collaboration, noting AEG’s expertise in managing large-scale, technologically advanced entertainment spaces. They said the new venue would offer a fitting global stage for celebrating cinema.

The Academy had earlier confirmed a separate deal with YouTube, covering 2029 to 2033. During this period, viewers will be able to stream not only the main ceremony but also red carpet coverage, backstage moments and the annual Governors Ball.

Over the decades, the Oscars have been staged at several iconic venues, including the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Shrine Auditorium, RKO Pantages Theatre, NBC International Theater and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

The most recent ceremony was hosted by Conan O'Brien. At this year’s awards held on March 15, One Battle after Another led the winners with six trophies, including Best Picture, while Sinners secured four awards. The 98th edition also introduced a new Best Casting category, awarded to casting director Cassandra Kulukundis for her work on One Battle after Another.
