The Jharkhand government will soon initiate the recruitment of over 1,200 doctors to strengthen its public healthcare system, Health Minister Irfan Ansari announced on Tuesday.

The appointments will be carried out through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission to address the shortage of medical professionals in government hospitals across the state.

Speaking at an event in Ranchi, where appointment letters were distributed to 76 newly hired contractual doctors, Ansari said the move would significantly improve healthcare delivery.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajoy Kumar Singh stated that a proposal has already been submitted to the commission for recruiting 1,243 doctors. The planned intake includes 297 medical officers, 189 assistant professors, 97 super-specialist assistant professors, and 660 specialist doctors.

The minister also outlined measures to tackle blood shortages, saying the government plans to onboard an external agency to manage supply. A toll-free helpline will be introduced, enabling people to request blood when needed.

To enhance diagnostic infrastructure, CT scan and MRI facilities will be installed across medical colleges, district hospitals, and sadar hospitals, easing the burden on major healthcare centres in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad.

Additionally, the state will conduct widespread screening for conditions such as sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia to determine the scale of impact.

Ansari added that efforts are underway to eliminate tuberculosis by 2029. As of December 2025, nearly 76,000 TB patients had been identified in the state and are currently receiving treatment.
