Actor-turned-politician Vijay is reportedly considering two Chennai constituencies—Velachery and Virugambakkam—for his electoral debut in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, sources within the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) said on Saturday.
According to party sources, Vijay has begun consultations with senior leaders and grassroots functionaries to assess the political dynamics of the two constituencies before taking a final call.
Velachery, a rapidly developing urban constituency located close to Vijay’s residence in Panaiyur, and Virugambakkam, where his parents reside, are both being actively evaluated. Inputs from party cadres are being sought to gauge voter sentiment and organisational strength, the sources said.
Apart from these two seats in Chennai, Vijay is also exploring options in Vikravandi in Villupuram district, Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam, and Vedasandur in Karur district. Party insiders said all shortlisted constituencies coincidentally begin with the letter ‘V’, a factor believed to have been suggested keeping electoral prospects in mind. However, the final decision will rest solely with Vijay.
Vikravandi holds particular significance for the TVK, as it hosted the party’s first major conference, where Vijay laid out the ideological framework of the outfit. He described the TVK as a secular movement rooted in social justice, drawing inspiration from leaders such as B R Ambedkar, Periyar E V Ramasamy and K Kamaraj.
During the conference, Vijay identified the Bharatiya Janata Party as his “ideological adversary” and the ruling DMK as his “political opponent.” He also indicated openness to power-sharing arrangements with like-minded parties ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
Vijay’s political journey gained momentum after his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, secured 115 seats in the 2021 rural local body elections across nine districts.
Launched on February 2, 2024, the TVK has been allotted the ‘whistle’ symbol by the Election Commission.
TVK chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan said the party would soon finalise its list of candidates. He added that Vijay symbolically represents the party in all 234 Assembly constituencies.

The party on February 6 began the online distribution of application forms for aspirants seeking TVK tickets, following an overwhelming response from cadres. While senior leaders formally inaugurated the process, the first application was taken in Vijay’s name, followed by one in the name of general secretary ‘Bussy’ N Anand.
