Union Minister Jitin Prasada on Tuesday said India’s regulatory approach to artificial intelligence is designed to provide sufficient oversight while ensuring that innovation continues to flourish across sectors.
Speaking at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) New Delhi Symposium 2026, Prasada stressed that AI regulations are not intended to stifle growth but to create an enabling environment where innovation can thrive. He underlined that the benefits of technological transformation must reach all sections of society.
India, the minister said, is a fast-growing market offering vast opportunities for technological innovation, including AI-driven solutions. Highlighting the country’s strengths, he said “scale, speed, innovation and inclusion” define India’s growth story.
Prasada, who serves as Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology as well as Commerce and Industry, said India cannot consider itself successful unless the gains of technology reach the bottom-up segments of society. “The regulations are enough for innovations to thrive,” he said, adding that technology-driven transformation should enhance productivity, raise income levels and improve overall standards of living.
At the event, Sandeep Dutta, President of AWS India and South Asia, said India’s success in AI will depend largely on its ability to democratise technology. He noted that the country’s robust digital public infrastructure would be one of the key pillars supporting this effort.
In another session, Arvinder Singh Sahney, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation, said the global shift towards sustainable energy presents a major opportunity for India. He pointed out that the country currently imports crude oil worth around USD 135 billion annually, making energy transition not a choice but a necessity.
Sahney also said Indian Oil is approaching the AI revolution with a sharper focus on customer-centricity, using advanced analytics to better predict customer behaviour.
During the symposium, AWS and industry body Nasscom announced a strategic collaboration to skill 2,50,000 learners in AI and cloud technologies by 2027.
