Marking the 17th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the ambassadors of Israel and France on Wednesday paid heartfelt tributes to the victims and reaffirmed their nations’ solidarity with India in the global fight against terrorism.

Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar, in a message said Israel stands with India “today and always,” recalling how the attacks targeted people of all nationalities, including Israelis. He said the shared pain and the will to fight terrorism form the bedrock of the strong India–Israel partnership. Azar honoured the victims, security forces, and first responders whose courage saved countless lives, adding that Israel remains committed to working with India to defeat terrorism in all its forms.

Earlier in the day, French Ambassador Thierry Mathou also paid homage, reiterating France’s unequivocal condemnation of terrorism. In his X message, he wrote that France continues to stand with India in combating this scourge.
The 26/11 attacks, carried out by 10 terrorists of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba on November 26, 2008, left 166 people dead and 300 injured over four days of violence across Mumbai. Iconic locations such as the Taj and Oberoi hotels, CST railway station, Nariman House, Cama Hospital, Metro Cinema and the Leopold Cafe were targeted.

While nine terrorists were killed during the operation, the lone surviving attacker, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was captured alive and later executed in 2012. Years later, the scars of 26/11 continue to resonate through the memories of survivors, families, and the very streets of South Mumbai.
