The Andaman and Nicobar administration will attempt two Guinness World Records this weekend as part of a push to promote the islands as a global diving destination, with Lieutenant Governor DK Joshi participating in both events, officials said on Friday.

The record attempts, 'Largest Flag Unfurled Underwater' and 'Tallest Human Stack Underwater', are scheduled for May 2 and May 3, respectively, at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), they said.

Joshi, who also serves as the vice chairman of the Islands Development Agency, will take part in the underwater activities, they added

The underwater flag unfurling will be held near Radha Nagar Beach, where a 60-metre by 40-metre tricolour is proposed to be displayed beneath the sea, officials said.

The second attempt will involve creating the tallest human stack underwater, targeting a minimum height of 10 metre, near the lighthouse area off the Swaraj Dweep jetty, they said.

The initiative has been planned in coordination with multiple departments and will involve trained divers, technical experts and support teams to ensure adherence to international safety standards and Guinness World Records guidelines, officials said.

The events are expected to attract international attention, boosting the profile of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a hub for scuba diving and eco-tourism, they said.
