N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on Friday announced that the state government will prohibit children below the age of 13 from using social media within the next 90 days.
Speaking in the state Assembly, Naidu said the government is currently examining the issue and plans to implement measures to prevent children under 13 from accessing social media platforms.
“Within 90 days, we will ensure that children below 13 years of age are not able to use social media,” he said.
The chief minister also noted that discussions are underway on whether the restriction should be extended to teenagers aged between 13 and 16 years.

According to Naidu, the government will take a final decision soon on the possibility of imposing similar curbs on social media usage by this age group as well.
