Personnel of the Indian Army on Wednesday safely neutralised a suspected World War II-era bomb in East Singhbhum of Jharkhand, officials said.
Sub-Divisional Officer Sunil Chandra confirmed that the explosive device had been successfully defused without causing any damage.
The nearly 200-kg bomb, which reportedly resembled a gas cylinder, was discovered last week during sand mining activities along the Panipada–Nagudsai stretch in the Baharagora region.
Earlier, a team comprising Army personnel and a bomb disposal squad from Ranchi had visited the site to assess the situation. The operation, led by a colonel-rank officer, also involved drone-based mapping of the area, according to SP (Rural) Rishabha Garg.
