Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad has announced his new party. He named his party 'Democratic Azad Party' He announced the name of the party at a press conference in Jammu on Monday.

Azad, who hails from Jammu’s Doda region, resigned from the Congress party on 26 August.

While announcing his party, he said that the ideology of the party will be like his name and its membership is open to all “secular” persons. His party’s agenda includes restoring of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and continuing to struggle for land and employment rights for local people.

“Our priority is to have an all-India presence. However, since the elections in J&K can happen anytime, the focus of his work will remain in UT. Azad will work with an eye on the 2024 national elections.

He criticized the Congress Party saying that people are trying to defame us (me and my supporters who have left the party) but their reach is limited to Twitter.

Azad said that Congress with the blood and sweat of leaders like him. He said he and other seniors worked on the ground and from only on computers by fighting on Twitter. “People are trying to defame us but their reach is limited to computers and tweets. This is the reason why Congress is nowhere to be seen on the ground.”

Azad’s seems to be yet another regional outfit in the border UT where already there are four regional outfits – National Conference, PDP, Ikkjutt Jammu, Panthers’ Party.
