West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday said the state earned notoriety because of recruitment scams during the previous regime and stressed the need to restore Bengal’s reputation.

Speaking at a Rozgar Mela organised under the Centre’s nationwide recruitment drive, Adhikari said intervention by both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court of India in alleged irregularities had adversely affected the state’s image.

“We have to bring our beloved West Bengal out of this situation,” he said.

Adhikari remarked that Bengal, once recognised for academic excellence and intellectual heritage, had suffered “infamy” because of alleged irregularities in school and municipal recruitment processes during the rule of the All India Trinamool Congress.

He claimed the controversy had become so severe that recruitment examinations conducted by the Eastern Railway, South Eastern Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway were no longer being held in the state.

“Youths from West Bengal had to travel to neighbouring Bihar, Assam and Odisha to appear for examinations,” he alleged.

Highlighting the impact on families, Adhikari said parents nurture dreams for their children’s careers through education, but those aspirations were shattered due to alleged recruitment irregularities in different state government sectors under the previous All India Trinamool Congress administration.
