Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Monday alleged that Bihar has slipped to the bottom among Indian states on key development indicators during the 21 years of rule by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Speaking to reporters outside the House during the ongoing Budget session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Yadav claimed the state now has the lowest per capita income in the country, faces the highest levels of unemployment, and continues to lag in areas such as sports and overall development.

“After more than two decades of NDA rule, Bihar has emerged as the poorest state. Employment opportunities are scarce, per capita income is the lowest, and progress in sectors like sports remains negligible,” he said.

The RJD leader also alleged that conditions in investment, education and healthcare sectors were grim. He further accused the state government of presiding over what he described as rampant crime, corruption and administrative failure.

“Incidents of serious crime, including gangrapes, kidnappings and murders, are being reported regularly. The government neither acts decisively nor provides answers when these issues are raised in the Assembly,” Yadav alleged.

He went on to claim that Bihar was suffering from ineffective leadership, terming it unfortunate that the state had an “unconscious” chief minister. According to him, widespread corruption has drained the state’s finances, and he warned that the exchequer could soon face difficulties in meeting salary obligations of government employees.
