Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law, former judge Giribala Singh, was produced before a Bhopal court on Friday after being arrested by the CBI in connection with the alleged dowry death case. The agency sought a five-day remand for Giribala Singh and also requested an extension of the remand of the main accused, Samarth Singh. Her counsel informed the court that there was no objection to the CBI’s plea.
The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, a Noida resident who died on May 12. The CBI took Giribala Singh into custody a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to her earlier by a Bhopal sessions court.
Twisha Sharma had married Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death, her family accused her husband and in-laws of harassing her over dowry demands. The case has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Giribala Singh has been charged with dowry death, cruelty by husband or relatives, and acting with common intention, besides offences under the Dowry Prohibition Act. With her anticipatory bail revoked, investigators are now free to carry out custodial interrogation and other legal procedures.

The probe was transferred to the CBI following directions from the Supreme Court, which earlier asked the agency to conduct an expeditious investigation. The apex court also advised both the victim’s family and the accused to avoid making public comments while the investigation is underway.
