Around 480 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be deployed in poll-bound West Bengal beginning March 1 to carry out area domination, confidence-building exercises and other election-related duties, an official of the Election Commission of India said on Saturday.
According to the official, the first phase of deployment will see approximately 240 companies inducted by March 1, with an equal number set to arrive by March 10. The forces will also be tasked with guarding electronic voting machines (EVMs) at strong rooms and counting centres throughout the election process.
The contingents will comprise personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal.

The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in the coming months. Meanwhile, the final electoral rolls, following the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), are slated for publication on February 28. The election schedule is expected to be announced in March.
