A delegation from Commonwealth Sport on Wednesday commenced a four-day visit to Gujarat to review preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which are set to be hosted in Ahmedabad.

The five-member team, led by Commonwealth Sport president Donald Rukare, is accompanied by officials from the Indian Olympic Association. The delegation will be in the state from April 8 to 11, assessing readiness for the multi-sport event.

Ahmedabad secured the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in November last year, marking the return of the event to India after nearly two decades.

The visit began with a courtesy meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. According to an official release, Rukare and Commonwealth Sport CEO Katie Sadleir appreciated the hospitality extended to them.

In a post on social media, Patel said discussions focused on ensuring timely and high-quality preparations for the Games, drawing inspiration from the leadership of Narendra Modi. He assured the delegation that the state government would provide all necessary infrastructure and facilities for the successful organisation of the event.

The Chief Minister reiterated Gujarat’s commitment to delivering a world-class sporting experience and showcasing its readiness on the global stage.

During their stay, the delegation will inspect several key venues proposed for the Games, including the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Narendra Modi Stadium, EKA Arena in Ahmedabad, Vadodara Cricket Stadium, and the Statue of Unity.

Rukare described the 2030 edition — which will mark the centenary of the Commonwealth Games — as a significant milestone and expressed confidence in Gujarat’s ability to host a memorable event. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration to ensure that the Games reflect not only sporting excellence but also cultural richness.

The delegation has also invited Patel to attend the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scheduled from July 23 to August 2, 2026, to observe arrangements and gain insights ahead of the 2030 event.
