Punjab Police on Wednesday said it has uncovered a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network in Amritsar, arresting four individuals, including a juvenile, and recovering seven advanced pistols along with 12 cartridges.
According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, initial investigations indicate that the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based operatives through a social media platform. They allegedly played a role in bringing illegal weapons into India via the Attari sector.
The seized consignments were reportedly picked up from pre-arranged locations and later distributed to criminal groups operating in different parts of Punjab, Yadav said in a post on X.
A case has been registered at Chheharta police station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
