Rekha Gupta has ordered a magisterial inquiry into a deadly fire at a multi-storey residential building in the Palam area of the national capital.
Expressing distress over the incident, the Chief Minister said the district administration, Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Police are carrying out rescue operations, adding that a detailed probe will ascertain the cause of the blaze.
According to officials, seven members of a family lost their lives in the fire that broke out on Wednesday morning, while two others sustained injuries after jumping from the building to escape the flames.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu said rescue and firefighting efforts are being closely monitored and all necessary assistance is being provided.
A major firefighting operation involving around 30 fire tenders was launched after authorities received a call about the blaze near Palam Metro Station at around 7 am.

Authorities are continuing rescue and relief efforts as investigations into the incident get underway.
