Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday warned that the ongoing West Asia conflict could have prolonged global repercussions, while reiterating that India has consistently pushed for de-escalation through diplomatic channels.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Modi said the evolving situation may continue to impact the world for an extended period, urging the country to remain prepared, united, and vigilant.

He emphasised that India’s approach has centred on dialogue and diplomacy, noting that he has personally engaged with leaders across the region to advocate restraint and an end to hostilities. He also condemned attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, including disruptions to commercial shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, calling such actions unacceptable.

The Prime Minister highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety of Indian vessels operating in the region, even amid heightened tensions, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and humanitarian concerns.

Stressing that peaceful engagement remains the only viable path forward, Modi said all efforts are being directed towards reducing tensions and achieving an early resolution to the conflict.

He also cautioned against misinformation and attempts to exploit the situation, stating that law enforcement and security agencies have been placed on high alert. Measures are being strengthened across coastal, border, cyber, and critical infrastructure security.

Additionally, the Prime Minister urged state governments to remain alert against black marketing and hoarding of essential commodities, directing that strict monitoring and swift action be taken wherever necessary.
