The Election Commission of India on Wednesday recalled a general observer in West Bengal after finding that he lacked essential information about the constituency under his charge.

According to officials, the issue came to light during a briefing session organised by the Commission, where Anurag Yadav, serving as General Observer for the Cooch Behar Dakshin Assembly seat, was unable to state the number of polling stations in the constituency.

Taking note of the lapse, the Commission ordered his immediate recall.

West Bengal is scheduled to vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29.
