Srinagar
Several higher reaches of Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall on Wednesday, while widespread rain lashed the plains, bringing down temperatures across the region, officials said.
Snowfall was reported from Pir Ki Gali along the Mughal Road and from Sonamarg, with most mountainous areas remaining snow-covered. The higher altitudes have been witnessing intermittent snowfall since Sunday.
Meanwhile, rain continued to lash plains including Srinagar, leading to a dip in daytime temperatures. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 14.9°C on Tuesday, slightly below normal, with other parts of the Valley also experiencing cooler-than-usual conditions.
The recent wet spell has reversed the trend of unusually high temperatures seen in previous weeks. Cloud cover has contributed to colder days and relatively warmer nights.
The Meteorological Department has forecast erratic weather conditions till March 20, with intermittent light to moderate rain or snowfall expected at many places. Higher reaches in the Chenab Valley and south Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy snowfall.
Another wet spell is likely between March 26 and 28, with light rain or snow expected at scattered locations.
