New Delhi
Indian Air Force marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor by organising an 88-hour relay run in the national capital, symbolising the duration of the military operation carried out last year.
The commemorative event, titled ‘Operation Sindoor Commemorative Run’, was held continuously from May 7 to May 10 and involved nearly 600 participants from various commands of the Air Force and the Army.
According to officials, the route covered several prominent locations in Delhi, including India Gate, Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Air Headquarters Vayu Bhawan, Nehru Park and New Moti Bagh Road, before concluding at the Air Force Station in New Delhi.
Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack. During the operation, Indian forces carried out precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The strikes led to heightened tensions between the two countries, with Pakistan launching retaliatory attacks that were largely intercepted by Indian defence systems. The confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours continued for nearly 88 hours before both sides arrived at an understanding on the evening of May 10.
The Defence Ministry said the relay run commemorated the successful air operations conducted by the IAF and highlighted the force’s ability to execute accurate and decisive missions.
Officials noted that the event also reflected coordination between the armed forces and civil authorities, with civilian volunteers participating enthusiastically throughout the relay.
The run was flagged off from India Gate at 1:05 am on May 7 by the Air Officer-in-Charge Administration and concluded on May 10 at 5 pm with a ceremonial flag-in led by the Chief of the Air Staff at the Air Force Station in New Delhi.
The ministry said the event aimed to strengthen camaraderie and pride among Air Force personnel while also increasing public engagement and awareness about the role of the armed forces.
