India has dispatched 250 metric tonnes of foodgrains to Seychelles as part of its ongoing development assistance under a USD 175 million Special Economic Package, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
Announcing the development, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X that the consignment has been sent, with more shipments expected in the coming period under the agreed package.
The assistance is part of India’s broader commitment to supporting Seychelles’ development and security priorities. During recent high-level engagements, Seychelles President Patrick Herminie acknowledged India’s continued support through lines of credit, grants, capacity-building initiatives, and high-impact community development projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s role as a reliable partner in Seychelles’ national development agenda, with a focus on sustainability, maritime security, resilience, and inclusive growth.
The USD 175 million package—announced during Herminie’s visit to India from February 5 to 10—includes a USD 125 million rupee-denominated line of credit and USD 50 million in grant assistance. These funds are aimed at financing development projects, strengthening defence cooperation, and enhancing institutional capacity.
Both countries have also agreed to deepen collaboration in digital transformation, with India supporting the development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in Seychelles, including digital payments and governance systems.
