Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised the Indian community in Oman, describing the diaspora as a “living example of co-existence and co-operation,” while addressing community members and students in Muscat.
Speaking amid chants of patriotic slogans, Modi said Indians abroad remain deeply connected to their roots. “Today we have gathered here as a family. We are celebrating our country, our Team India,” he said.
Highlighting India’s cultural pluralism, the Prime Minister said diversity is the foundation of Indian culture. “Every day brings new colours, every season becomes a festival, and every tradition carries a new idea. That is why wherever Indians go, they respect diversity,” he added.
Referring to UNESCO’s recent recognition of Diwali as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Modi said the festival’s ‘diya’ would now illuminate the entire world, spreading hope, harmony and humanity.
Modi also highlighted India-Oman ties, noting that the two countries share centuries-old maritime and cultural links. He described the India-Oman Maitri Parv as a celebration of shared history and a prosperous future.
Earlier, the Prime Minister addressed the India-Oman Business Forum, underlining reforms such as GST and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, and emphasised the importance of the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
