Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Amira Kadal pedestrian bridge in Srinagar, highlighting the project’s focus on combining the city’s heritage with modern infrastructure to create lively public spaces.

Addressing reporters after the inauguration, Sinha said the redevelopment, carried out under the Srinagar Smart City initiative, was designed to integrate Srinagar’s traditional charm with contemporary amenities, fostering culturally vibrant spaces for residents.

“This bridge, which underwent redesign starting in 2023, is now dedicated to the people of Srinagar. The project ensures that heritage elements are preserved while modern facilities are incorporated, contributing to more dynamic urban spaces in the city,” the LG said.

He added that similar efforts across pedestrian walkways, riverfront projects, and parks aim to revive the city’s historic connection with its cultural traditions.

Officials said the upgraded wooden footbridge will enhance pedestrian movement across the Jhelum river while maintaining the historic character of the Amira Kadal area. The bridge is expected to provide safe and convenient access to the riverfront and connect seamlessly with key heritage and commercial zones, including Goni Khan, Maharaja Bazar, and Hari Singh High Street.
