In a glittering ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind presented Padma awards to 141 outstanding personalities from different walks of life for the year 2020.
 
The conferring of awards was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
On Tuesday, 112 eminent persons who have been awarded the Padma Awards for 2021, will be given the awards.
 
The Padma Awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day. Usually, The President presented the awards in March-April. However, this time, the award ceremony was delayed because of the Covid pandemic.
 
Former Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj were posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan. Badminton player PV Sindhu was awarded Padma Bhushan for her contribution to sports and actor Kangana Ranaut and singer Adnan Sami were awarded Padma Shri for their contribution to the films and culture.
 
Besides two Bangladeshis and one Sri Lankan personality have also been honuored with.
 
Former Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, George Fernandes were posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan. President Ram Nath Kovind presented the award to Arun Jaitley's wife Sangeeta Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj's daughter Bansuri Swaraj.
 
Badminton player PV Sindhu has been awarded the Padma Bhushan and hockey player Rani Rampal the Padma Shri Award 2020 for her contribution to the field of play.
 
Eminent classical singer Pandit Channu Lal Mishra was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award.
 
Air Marshal Dr. Padma Bandupadhyay (Retd.) Today received the Padma Shri Award in the field of Medicine. She is India's first female Air Marshal. Apart from them, former Chief Scientist of ICMR Dr. Raman Ganga Khedkar was also awarded Padma Shri.
 
For the first time, the Padma Award has been given to the citizens of Bangladesh. They include former Indian High Commissioner Moazzam Ali and 1971 war hero Colonel Qazi Sajjad Ali Zaheer. 
 
Both have been awarded the Padma Shri, India's highest civilian award, making them the first Bangladeshi citizens to receive the award.
 
Moazzam Ali has been posthumously awarded.
