Ahead of the special three-day sitting of Parliament, senior Indian National Congress leaders met at the residence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday to finalise their strategy on the women’s quota law and delimitation.

Kharge convened a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary strategy group, where top leaders discussed the proposed implementation of women’s reservation along with concerns related to delimitation.

The government on Tuesday circulated bills concerning the women’s quota law and delimitation among Members of Parliament.

The Congress has alleged that when the intent behind a bill is “mischievous” and its content “devious”, the damage to parliamentary democracy can be enormous.

The Budget Session of Parliament of India has been extended, and a special sitting has been scheduled from April 16 to 18.

During the session, amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam are expected to be introduced to enable implementation from the 2029 general elections.

Under the proposal, the number of seats in the Lok Sabha would rise to as many as 850 from the present 543, following a delimitation exercise based on the latest published census.
