Addressing an election rally in Kochi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), alleging that even “God is not secure” in the state, often referred to as “God’s Own Country”.
Referring to controversies surrounding the Sabarimala Temple, Singh accused the LDF of betraying Lord Ayyappa over alleged irregularities linked to missing gold. Drawing a comparison from Christian scripture, he said the betrayal was akin to Judas turning against Jesus Christ.
Speaking at a gathering in the Paravur assembly constituency, Singh also criticised both the LDF and the United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing them of failing the people of Kerala. He alleged that the two alliances have divided society, weakened the state’s economy, and not delivered on their promises.
Taking a swipe at both fronts, the BJP leader remarked that the word “front” in their names symbolises “fronts of corruption”. He went on to claim that LDF stands for “loot, division and failure”, while UDF represents “untrustworthiness, dishonesty and fraud”.
Singh also raised allegations related to the 2020 gold smuggling case, claiming that individuals close to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan were involved. He further alleged links between the chief minister’s family and a money laundering case connected to Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd.

He added that corruption was not limited to the current government, accusing the UDF of being equally culpable during its tenure. Kerala is scheduled to go to polls on April 9.
