Leaders across parties pay tribute to Pahalgam victims on first anniversary

Political leaders across party lines on Wednesday paid homage to the 26 people killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, describing the tragedy as a wound that will never fully heal.

National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said the incident brought grief to every Kashmiri. He added that people across the Valley united in condemning the attack, with candlelight marches and public expressions of sorrow. He also said the tragedy harmed the region’s economy and hoped security at tourist destinations would be strengthened.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariiq Hameed Karra said memories of the attack continue to bring anguish. He expressed concern over recurring security worries and said governance must become more proactive. He also urged reflection, corrective steps and greater engagement with democratic voices in the region.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party held a rally in Anantnag to mark the day as a “black day.”

BJP leader Sofi Yusuf said the party was paying tribute to those killed and standing with their families. He also praised India’s response to cross-border terrorism.

In Jammu, J&K BJP president and MP Sat Sharma said the entire nation was remembering those who lost their lives. He added that India seeks peace but knows how to defend itself when required.
