Entry to the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan will be regulated through a face-recognition system from Tuesday, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar announced on Monday.

Speaking on the opening day of the monsoon session of the state legislature, Narwekar said the process for implementing the new security and access-control mechanism had been finalised and the facial registration of most legislators had already been completed.

“Accordingly, it has been decided that entry to the Vidhan Bhavan will be through the face-recognition system. The face recognition of most MLAs has been completed so far, and their entry is taking place smoothly,” he informed the House.

The Speaker acknowledged that some journalists, government officials and legislature employees had been unable to complete their registration due to technical issues.

To avoid inconvenience on the first day of implementation, he granted a one-day exemption to such individuals.

“Journalists, officers and employees whose face recognition has not been completed have been granted relaxation today and have been allowed entry based on their identity cards,” Narwekar said.

The temporary relaxation will end on Monday, and from Tuesday onward, access to the legislature complex will be permitted only through the face-recognition system.
