Maharashtra reports highest single day spike in Covid cases

Maharashtra reported 59,906 new COVID-19 cases in highest ever single-day spike today, taking the overall caseload to 31,73,261.

Maharashtra also reported the highest single-day death count due to coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic with 322 fatalities. The total death count in the state has reached 56,652.

With the recovery of 30,296 patients today, the total number of active COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has come down to 5,01,559. The state's recovery rate stands at 82.36 per cent at present.

Out of the new cases today, Pune shared the highest with 11,023 cases, followed by Mumbai at 10,428, Nagpur at 5,721 cases, Thane at 3,108 and Aurangabad 1,765 cases. The case fatality rate in the state stands at 1.79 per cent.

Amid a surge in cases, the Maharashtra government has imposed a night curfew and weekend lockdowns.
