Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step towards peace.

In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said the two-week ceasefire underscores the importance of restraint and dialogue in resolving conflicts. “It is a welcome step towards peace… dialogue must take precedence over confrontation, and peace over war,” he said.

He also praised the resilience of the Iranian people and leadership during the conflict, calling their response “commendable” in the face of what he termed extreme aggression.

The former Hurriyat Conference chairman acknowledged the role of various actors, including Islamabad, in facilitating the ceasefire.

Expressing hope for the future, he said the temporary truce should pave the way for sustained stability and deeper diplomatic engagement.

“May this lead to lasting stability and greater dialogue over conflict,” he added.
