Mizoram currently has nearly 40,000 enterprises or small and medium-sized business units registered under Udyam, officials said on Monday.

As per the record maintained till July this year, there are 39,797 enterprises with Udyam registration across the state, they said.

Udyam registration is the official, free online system used by the Government of India to recognise and register Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)

The Mizoram government is also making efforts to expand the market for locally made products beyond the state.

As part of this measure, an e-commerce platform 'MadebyMizo.com' has been developed to provide a dedicated marketplace for local products, they said.

In addition, kiosks have been opened in New Delhi to showcase and sell products manufactured in Mizoram, providing local entrepreneurs with access to markets outside the state, they said.

Officials also said that several initiatives have been taken to promote the processing and value addition of bamboo, including the production and marketing of agarbatti (incense) sticks and incense products.

Bamboo briquette charcoal is being produced at Sairang near Aizawl and Chhingchhip in Serchhip district and marketed as part of efforts to make greater use of the state's bamboo resources, they said.

A plantation of Phunkirua (T oliveri) was undertaken at Khawzawl starting from this year using the scientific "Hexagonal Honeycomb Terracing" technique, and the initiative has reportedly yielded encouraging results, they said.

At the Bamboo Technology Park (BTP) in Sairang, work is underway to facilitate the production of round sticks and toothpicks from bamboo.

To improve the durability and longevity of bamboo-based products, a chemical treatment plant has also been established at the Zuangtui Industrial Estate on the northern outskirts of Aizawl, officials said.
