Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday underscored the growing importance of cybersecurity, describing data as one of the most valuable resources in the digital age and asserting that safeguarding it is as crucial as protecting the country's territorial borders.

Addressing a state-level workshop on strengthening cybersecurity and data protection, Yadav announced plans to establish a dedicated Cyber Security Research Centre aimed at addressing emerging digital threats and enhancing the state's cyber resilience.

Highlighting the increasing significance of digital infrastructure, the Chief Minister said data has become a critical asset in modern governance and economic activity. He noted that cyber threats are evolving rapidly across the world, making robust digital security mechanisms indispensable.

Yadav expressed concern over the rising incidence of cybercrime, pointing out that technologically skilled fraudsters are capable of wiping out an individual's life savings within moments. He stressed that protecting citizens from such threats must remain a top priority.

Emphasising accountability, the Chief Minister said the state government would take responsibility in the event of any breach involving government-held data and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cybersecurity.

The workshop focused on key issues related to cyber governance, including emerging threats, data protection measures, and the security of digital platforms used by various government departments.

Referring to the changing nature of modern security challenges, Yadav said technological advancements have transformed the way threats emerge and evolve. He noted that recent security operations have demonstrated how advanced technologies and tools such as drones are increasingly shaping contemporary security environments.

The Chief Minister also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approach to national security, stating that the Prime Minister has consistently anticipated emerging challenges and taken proactive measures to prepare government institutions and citizens alike.

According to Yadav, the proposed Cyber Security Research Centre will be developed in partnership with the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) in Mhow and other academic institutions. The facility is expected to function as a hub for cybersecurity research, innovation, skill development and advanced digital defence capabilities.

He said the centre would be equipped with modern monitoring and protection systems, enabling authorities not only to respond to cyberattacks but also to anticipate and prevent potential threats through continuous surveillance and analysis.

Speaking at the event, Additional Director General of Police (Cyber) A. Sai Manohar revealed that six cyber commandos have already been deployed in the state, while another 38 personnel have been selected for specialised training.

He added that the Madhya Pradesh Cyber Cell plans to train a total of 44 cyber commandos ahead of the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain to strengthen cybersecurity preparedness during the mega religious event.
