NCERT syllabus and a dress code will be implemented in madrassas under the Waqf Board in Uttarakhand from the next academic session.

The chairman of the state Waqf Board, Shadab Shams, said, this will be implemented in all the 103 madrassas in the state in a phased manner.

In the first phase, 7 madrassas will be modernized and run on the lines of modern schools. Children from other religions will also be allowed to seek admission in them.

Of the seven madrassas, two are each in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, while one madrassa is in Nainital district.

Quran will be taught in these madrassas from 6:30 am to 7:30 am. From 8 am till 2 pm these madrassas will run like normal schools.

They will be registered with the Uttarakhand Board and not the Madrassa Board.
