The force said detentions surged during the period of political unrest in Bangladesh, when BSF troops worked round the clock to prevent illegal entry into India. “BSF has apprehended 10,263 Bangladeshi nationals on the Indo-Bangladesh border while attempting to infiltrate/exfiltrate into Indian territory," the Eastern Command said in a statement. "During the Bangladesh unrest, BSF maintained the highest degree of professionalism, ensuring illegal migrants could not enter India.”
Officials said strengthened deployment, advanced surveillance and coordinated ground action contributed to the increased interceptions.
The BSF Eastern Command also marked the force’s 61st Raising Day, recalling its formation after the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War and extending greetings to personnel and their families. It urged troops to remain steadfast and committed in discharging their duties along one of India’s most sensitive borders.
