A 32-year-old man allegedly lost his life after being assaulted by fellow passengers during a dispute while boarding the Yoga Express at Shahdara railway station in east Delhi on Saturday, police officials said.
The incident occurred on Platform No. 3, where a confrontation reportedly broke out amid heavy crowding as passengers attempted to board the train.
Following information about the scuffle, police from the Old Delhi Railway Police Station rushed to the scene and initiated an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Dhama, a resident of Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh.
According to preliminary findings, Dhama was allegedly attacked by several passengers during the altercation and sustained multiple injuries after being punched and kicked.
He was immediately taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police have registered a medico-legal case and initiated legal proceedings under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A senior police officer said efforts are underway to identify the individuals involved in the assault. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the railway station and recording statements from eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events.
