Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said 22 people were prevented from illegally entering India.

He, however, did not share the details of those who made attempts to enter the country and the location where they were prevented.

"Assam Di Galli Vich: No Entry. Alert forces along the international borders identified 22 people who were trying to illegally infiltrate into India and STOPPED THEM right at the borderline," Sarma said in a post on X on Wednesday night.

He also said, "Any and all such attempts at infiltration will meet the same fate."

Assam's Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri and South Salmara-Mankachar districts share 267.5 km of international border with Bangladesh.

The northeast has a total of three integrated check posts (ICPs) along the India-Bangladesh border - at Sutarkandi in Assam's Sribhumi, at Dawki in Meghalaya and at Akhaura in Tripura.

There is another ICP in the region at Darranga in Assam along the India-Bhutan border.

The Assam Police had earlier said that the state force and the BSF would do everything possible to prevent any attempt by non-Indians to enter the country from Bangladesh as per the law after a political turmoil hit the neighbouring country in 2024.
