Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the loss of lives in the multi-vehicle collision in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur, and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Eleven people, including children, were killed in the collision triggered by a suspected brake failure in a truck in the district on Wednesday night.
"Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the mishap in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the quick recovery of the injured," Modi said in a post on X.

The prime minister also announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh would be given from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each of those who lost their lives in the accident and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
