India-Africa partnership will signal stability in turbulent world: Jaishankar

S. Jaishankar on Thursday said the partnership between India and Africa will send a strong message of stability, reliability and solidarity at a time when the world faces growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

Speaking in New Delhi during the unveiling of the logo, theme and website for India-Africa Forum Summit-IV, Jaishankar said the upcoming summit offers an important chance to deepen ties and shape a more ambitious, inclusive and future-focused partnership.

Stability in Uncertain Times

Referring to ongoing global conflicts, including tensions in West Asia, the minister said:

“It will be a message of stability in a turbulent world, of reliability in an uncertain one, and of solidarity in difficult times.”

He added that India and Africa are not only development partners but also partners in building a better global future.

Stronger Diplomatic Presence

Jaishankar said India has significantly expanded its diplomatic engagement across Africa by opening 17 new missions, taking the total number of Indian missions on the continent to 46.

He reiterated that Africa occupies a central place in India’s foreign policy, guided by principles of equality, mutual respect and shared progress.

Historic and Strategic Ties

According to the minister, India-Africa relations are rooted in centuries-old civilisational links, cultural exchanges and solidarity during anti-colonial struggles. He said this shared history continues to shape modern cooperation.

Shared Development Goals

Jaishankar said India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 and Africa’s Agenda 2063 complement each other as pathways to prosperity, inclusive development and sustainability.

Support for Africa in Global Governance

He also highlighted India’s support for Africa’s stronger voice in global institutions, calling the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 during India’s 2023 presidency a landmark move.

Security and Maritime Cooperation

Jaishankar said defence, security and maritime cooperation are key pillars of the relationship, guided by the vision of MAHASAGAR to ensure stability in the Indian Ocean Region and safer sea routes.
