Phagwara

Residents in Phagwara staged a brief road blockade on Friday, halting traffic near Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk along the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road to protest against an alleged shortage of LPG cylinders.

According to eyewitnesses, the demonstration lasted around 15 minutes and led to disruptions for commuters before authorities stepped in. The situation was brought under control after intervention by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Bhushan and traffic personnel.

Protesters raised slogans against the government and accused certain individuals of engaging in black marketing of cooking gas. Many claimed they had been unable to get LPG cylinders for weeks despite repeated bookings.

Some residents alleged that they were advised to book cylinders online during odd hours, yet even after doing so, they had to make multiple visits to the gas agency without success.

They further claimed that influential individuals were able to secure cylinders easily through personal contacts, while ordinary consumers continued to struggle.

The gas agency at the centre of the allegations remained closed at the time, and no response was available from its management.
