Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will be on a two-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from April 26, during which he is expected to highlight concerns over the Centre's Rs 81,000-crore Great Nicobar Holistic Development Project.
During the visit from April 26 to 28, Gandhi will also travel to Great Nicobar Island, said Manickam Tagore, the in-charge of the Congress' affairs in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The former Congress chief is expected to highlight concerns over the Centre's ambitious Rs 81,000 crore Great Nicobar Holistic Development Project, which has sparked debates over its potential impact on the region's fragile ecology.
His upcoming visit to the islands follows his recent meeting with G Bhasker, the chairperson of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), and members of the Great Nicobar Tribal Council in New Delhi.
