New Delhi
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Thursday after continued disruptions over multiple issues, including the soaring Air Quality Index (AQI), the draft Atomic Energy Bill 2025, human-animal conflict, and the rupee’s fall to an all-time low against the US dollar.
Sharp exchanges were witnessed between Chairman CP Radhakrishnan and MPs amid sloganeering by Opposition members demanding a debate on air pollution. BJD MP Sulata Deo criticised the government over deteriorating air quality, particularly in Delhi-NCR, noting that AQI readings had crossed 400, impacting children, senior citizens, and millions nationwide.
Union MoS for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh responded on the Atomic Energy Bill, stating that the draft is under advanced processing with inputs from various ministries and legal vetting before government approval.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the government’s economic policies, linking them to the rupee’s decline past Rs 90 per US dollar, and said the currency “has no value in the world” under the current administration.
