Amit Shah was on Tuesday appointed by J. P. Nadda as the central observer of the Bharatiya Janata Party for West Bengal, while Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, has been named central co-observer.
The appointments come a day after the BJP registered a historic victory in West Bengal, positioning itself to form its first government in the state. According to data released by the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 207 of the 294 assembly seats, while the All India Trinamool Congress secured 80 seats.
For Assam, Nadda has been appointed central observer for the election of the BJP legislature party leader, with Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana, serving as co-observer.
In Assam, the BJP won 82 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 64. Its allies — Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front — won 10 seats each, helping the NDA complete a third straight victory in the state. The Congress-led alliance managed 19 seats.
Elsewhere, the Indian National Congress-led UDF registered a major win in Kerala, while the All India N.R. Congress-led alliance retained power in Puducherry.

In Tamil Nadu, actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the single-largest party with 107 seats, while the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was reduced to 59 seats. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar accepted the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and his council of ministers following the result.
